Symptom Checklist-90-Revised: A structural examination in relation to family functioning

The accurate assessment of psychopathological behaviours adolescents and young adults is imperative. Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) one the most comprehensive widely used scales addressing this purpose internationally. Interestingly, associations between different SCL-90 symptoms family functioning have been highlighted. Nevertheless, scale’s factorial structure has often challenged. To contribute in area, study scrutinizes dimensions a large cohort high school students (Mean age = 16.16; SD .911) from Greece. It addresses aim by: a) using first order bi-factor confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory structural equation models and; b) investigating factors’ with functioning. A total 2090 public Greek High School completed SCL-90-R Family Adaptability Cohesion Scale IV (FACES-IV) covering functioning, satisfaction communication. Six solutions, yielded by separate permutations CFA, ESEM, bifactor models, were evaluated. Based on global fit, clarity, reliabilities links ESEM oblique model theorized nine factors emerged as optimum. This had adequate symptom well defined. Also six demonstrated external clinical benefits these results are discussed.
